After witnessing Jay pull a dozen trout in half an hour fishing about 30 yards from our shore we tracked him down and booked a charter. Jay met us at our beach 6am sharp and we waded out and were hauling in fish in short order. Jay was a terrific instructor, and hooked (terrible pun) me up with a couple of his jigs, which enabled me to successfully fish from shore and paddle board the remainder of our time (though not to the degree of success we had with Jay and his well outfitted boat). He was very flexible and rotated our kids, all of whom caught whoppers and for the first time declared fishing was fun! My two sons and I booked a fishing trip with Bailey Hazen Angling, and the day of we enthusiastically showed up at the beach on Caspian. Drifting out of a gray fog appears a beautifully adept clean craft with a jovial 'Hi, I'm Jay!'. The following blissful misty hours were spent with the sounds of lines dropping, loons calling, riffling on hull and amazed gasps as my kids pulled up fish! Big lakers that, just a few moments before, appeared as colored blips on a screen. In the 12+ years I’ve fished with Jay he’s done more than anybody to expand my understanding and skill set as an angler. In salt and fresh, on rivers and stillwaters, with fly and conventional gear, for warm- and coldwater species, under blue skies and blizzards, he’s encyclopedic in his knowledge and amazingly observant and responsive to the conditions of the moment, and he tenaciously works the problem until he’s figured out where the fish are and what will catch them. We had a great day on Caspian lake with Jay. He’s a great guide, put us on so many lake trout that I lost count! I am pretty experienced and my buddy was a novice, Jay helped both of us with technique on the fly rod and the spinner, I learned a lot. Great time, great conversation and great music. Highly recommend Jay and Bailey Hazen Angling Adventures
